Author and educator competing in 2011 Ms. Virginia Senior America Pageant

May 19 at Kauffman Auditorium, Lee Center, Alexandria.

According to the Ms. Senior America Pageant, the pageant is the world’s first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to women who have reached the “Age of Elegance.” It is a search for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms. Senior America philosophy is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a better society.

The pageant gives women 60 years of age and older an opportunity to display their “inner beauty,” talents, and elegance. The Pageant seeks to draw attention to the achievements of senior women. The Pageant motivates and encourages women to utilize their full potential and share a positive outlook on life with others. Participants represent a cross section of America.

The Ms. Senior America Pageant is an exciting combination of talent and inner beauty along with individual fulfillment and elegance.

More than a “beauty pageant” it is what America is about . . . a re-affirmation of life and self worth, of laughter and tears, of inner beauty and outward charm.

“After surviving polio I knew that the Lord had a reason for my life. I have been strengthened by the challenges that have come my way,” Wade said. “I feel that worrying is negative thinking, so I’d rather focus on solutions. In all situations do all humanly possible, then let go and let God. He works in mysterious ways for the good of those who serve him,” said Wade.

In October of 2009, Wade reached her ultimate goal, her book “Melody’s Gifts” was published.

According to Wade, the book is meant to enrich and benefit the lives of others, to help inspire and show them how truly precious a single life can be.

It is a touching true story about a determined, dedicated family’s search and journey to maximize the life of their daughter, Melody, although she was born profoundly disabled.

The story tells of the love Melody has given and lessons she has taught her family and others throughout her life.

In the book, Louise shares countless unique therapies and life-altering strategies which have empowered Melody to reach miraculous goals.

Wade taught students from elementary school through college. She is hopeful her tried and true unique strategies will impact the lives of countless individuals with special needs.

“Melody’s Gifts” is an inspirational story of a family’s determination that neither Cerebral Palsy nor mental retardation would silence Melody’s song.

Wade choose to participate in the pageant to. “Help people better understand our Melody and many like her. I’m in it to win it for folks like Melody.”
