Last year The Patriot featured an article on Louise Wade of Dublin and her book “Melody’s Gifts,” named for her daughter. Since then the book has found success within the community and beyond, and has generated much interest.

In the process of promoting the book the Wades, Louise and husband Jack, have been given monetary donations other than the proceeds from book sales. Recently Melody herself gifted Craig Springs Church Camp (for adults) in Craig County with musical instruments using those donations.

At this time all book sale proceeds go to recoup the cost of printing the book. “We chose the cymbals, clappers, bells, sticks, drums and tambourines. It didn’t matter if the campers were high functioning and low functioning. Music is the universal language,” according to Louise. Melody has participated in the church camp for nearly 20 years. She even helped create a crate to store the instruments when not in use.

When the instruments were presented to the campers during a recent ceremony, the group enjoyed playing patriotic music such as “This Land Is Your Land” and the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Louise and Jack agree that being there that afternoon was worth the two and a half years of marketing and everything else they’d done to promote the book. After printing costs are recouped, all book sales proceeds will directly benefit disabled individuals. Proceeds will be used to purchase individual learning tools, special clothing and fill other special needs.

“Melody’s Gifts” is an inspirational story of a “family’s determination that neither Cerebral Palsy nor mental retardation would silence Melody’s song. “This is a touching, true story about a determined, dedicated family’s search and journey to maximize the life of their daughter, Melody, although she was born profoundly disabled. “The author shares countless, unique therapies and life-altering strategies which have empowered Melody to reach miraculous goals.

“Because Louise taught students from elementary school through college, her unique strategies will impact the lives of countless individuals with special needs.

“The book is written with heartache and tearful experiences balanced with lighthearted, funloving times. The reader becomes a part of the emotional impact of the story, which unfolds as an adventure.

“Readers engrossed in the story won’t take even the smallest tasks for granted again. Each may become a part of the incredibly beautiful, unselfish, overflowing, powerful love Melody has expressed throughout her life.”

These are the words used by Wade, along with co-author Shelia Nelson of Pulaski in describing the book “Melody’s Gifts,” a must read for anyone who is parenting a special needs child.

It will inspire parents to go above and beyond in meeting the needs of their children. It will encourage parents and caregivers to help their child or family member reach their full potential. It proves that through prayer, God’s help and loving parents all children can dance to their own tune.

Melody’s Gifts is on sale now. Pay pal is available for purchases. The cost is $22.
